Lagerfeld caused a storm when he told the Paris Metro that he thought Adele was 'a little too fat'. It appeared that he had been trying to compliment the singer, as he also said she has a 'beautiful face and divine voice'.
He has since tried to clarify his comments, telling the newspaper: 'I'd like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought.'
A number of women have spoken out in defence of Adele since the interview was published, with many calling for a boycott of Chanel, where Lagerfeld is creative director.
Adele has always maintained that she is happy with her shapely figure and doesn't intend to lose weight.
She has looked a little slimmer in recent months, however it is thought this is related to her recent health issues, which saw her undergo throat surgery.
