Karl Lagerfeld $37,500 Collar - Karl Lagerfeld is selling one expensive accessory: a $37,500 black diamond and emerald collar. Part of the proceeds will benefit a charity for children with cancer. If one thing is certain, it’s that Karl Lagerfeld loves over-the-top extravagance — just ask the two maids that serve his kitten, Choupette. So it should come as no surprise that when the fashion designer creates something as special as a one-of-a-kind variation on his signature collar, he does it big.
With 40 carats of black diamonds and a single, 22.3-carat hydrothermal emerald centerpiece, Lagerfeld’s collar necklace, designed for luxury e-tailer Net-A-Porter, will set its new owner back a cool $37,500 — about as much cash as a midsize car. Fashionologie reports that the piece will be on display at Masterpiece London, an art and design fair, from June 28 to July 4, after which Net-A-Porter will ship it to the buyer along with Karl’s original design sketch. Part of the proceeds will go to CLIC Sargent, a charity for children with cancer.
Lagerfeld said of the necklace in a statement: “I’m renowned for my love of a high collar and I wanted to create a true collector’s item with this one-off piece. Merging the masculine with the feminine and uniting the world of fine jewelry and high fashion, to me this collar is a work of art and a real showstopper.”
