australian christian sprenger silver breaststroke, AUSTRALIAS Christian Sprenger grabbed the silver medal in the mens 100m breaststroke at London 2012.Sprenger, who swam 58.93sec, chased tearaway leader Cameron van der Burgh valiantly but the South African was too strong, winning in a world record 58.46sec.
“It’s going to take a long time to really sink in,’’ Sprenger said of his silver medal.
“When I saw 58 (on the scoreboard) I though it was a mistake. I thought ‘I couldn’t do 58’. I really executed well.’’
His teammate Brenton Rickard finished sixth in 59.87. Two-time defending champion Kasuke Katajima of Japan finished fifth.
In the 200m freestyle semi finals earlier, Thomas Frazer-Holmes swam out of his skin to make lane eight for tomorrow morning’s final behind Chinese super-swimmer Yang Sun.
Frazer-Holmes swam 1min46.80sec to grab the last spot in what will be a hot final with Ryan Lochte of the USA and Taehwan Park of South Korea the main dangers to Sun.
The controversial Kenrick Monk missed a spot, swimming 1:47.38 to finish seventh in his heat.
