A rising star, Sedlak also also a judge on Family Cook Off, as well as author of the national bestseller cookbook, “The Main.” His unexpected and sudden death has devastated his family, friends and the culinary community.
Sedlak, at 13 years-old, discovered his love for food and the restaurant experience that rapidly shaped his future. By 19, he completed a Culinary Arts Program and four-year apprenticeship at Vancouver Community College. Knowing a European experience would be critical to his development as a star chef, he then spent almost two years at La Trompette, a Michelin Star restaurant in London, England.
At 23, Sedlak represented Canada at the World Junior Chef Challenge in Auckland, New Zealand, winning silver. Later that year, he competed in and won Food Network’s Superstar Chef Challenge. He hosted four seasons of his own show on Food Network Canada called The Main, and then went on to write a cookbook based on the series; after just nine months on shelf, book sales made Sedlak a Canadian best-selling author. His recent TV series had him as a judge on Food Network Canada’s Family Cook Off.
After co-opening The American Cheesesteak Co. restaurant earlier this year in Vancouver, he had moved onto his next venture — reinventing the Toronto Don Valley Hotel & Suites’ restaurants and room service menus. Sedlak had recently been spending most of his time in Toronto preparing for the hotel’s official launch.
