Between the elaborately choreographed whimsy of Danny Boyle's "Isles Of Wonder" Opening Ceremony and the pyrotechnic send-off at Olympic Stadium soundtracked by Spice Girls and The Who, more than 10,000 athletes from around the world competed in more than 300 events. These athletes produced both spellbinding moments of sporting brilliance (see: David Rushida) as well as endured heartrending moments of emotional and physical defeat (calling Morgan Uceny, with a nod to Jordyn Wieber).
While the exhilaration of the unexpected triumphs (and failures) provided some of the most poignant moments of the London Games, it was hard to deny the blockbuster performances of two stars from the Beijing Games who reprised their roles in London.
