A Juneau man was arrested Sunday night by Alaska State Troopers on the Chena River near Fairbanks, where he was allegedly floating on a raft with several times the legal blood-alcohol content to operate a watercraft.
Troopers received reports of a “heavily intoxicated” man floating down the river in a raft shortly after 6:30 p.m. Sunday. An Alaska Wildlife Troopers patrol boat was soon able to stop the raft, carrying 32-year-old William Modene, near the Parks Highway bridge.
“Modene had been floating on the river for the day and consuming alcoholic beverages the entire time,” troopers wrote. “Modene's breath test revealed a breath alcohol level of .313, almost 4 times the legal limit. Under Alaska law, operating a watercraft under the influence of an alcoholic beverage is a class A misdemeanor.”
Troopers subsequently arrested Modene for operating a watercraft while under the influence of alcohol.
