Mary Poppins star Dick Van Dyke,86, marries his 40-year-old make-up artist, The star of Mary Poppins has married Arlene Silver, his 40-year-old make-up artist. They first met six years ago in the green room at the SAG Awards, according to an interview the veteran star and his new wife gave to Rumorfix.'Kind of on the spur of the moment, we decided Leap Day would be the best time to do it,' Van Dyke says.The silver-haired legend, who charms each generation with his exuberant performance as chimney sweep Bert in the classic 1964 nanny film starring Julie Andrews, has been married once before.
He first said 'I do' to Margie Willett in 1948 during a live broadcast of the radio show Bride and Groom. They were married for 36 years and had four children together before divorcing in 1984 after a long separation. The star also lived with actress Michelle Triola from 1976 until her death of lung cancer in 2009.
'I’m not a loner,' a typically upbeat happy Van Dyke tells RumorFix. 'I have to have a life partner and I found the perfect one.''He’s the happiest person I’ve ever met,' Silver says. 'He’s just got an infectious spirit.'
The two then proceed to perform a duet of the All in the Family theme.
Van Dyke remains a firm favourite with fans spanning across the generations thanks to his timeless roles in Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and his work on the small screen.He lives in Malibu by the ocean, and two years ago he told a U.S. chat show that he used to be a keen surfer, using a 10ft ‘long board’ off Virginia Beach on the U.S. East Coast.
‘I went out once and fell asleep on that board and I woke up out of sight of land,’ said Van Dyke‘And I looked around and I started paddling with the swells, and I started seeing fins swimming around me. I thought, “I’m dead”.’‘They turned out to be porpoises. They pushed me all the way to shore – I’m not kidding.’
"The snow only made it look more like a winter wonderland," Michael Russo, a celebrity event planner of Roses-n-Lollipops who worked with the couple for Saturday's event, told People. The event had a fairy-tale-forest theme, including 14-foot trees covered in hydrangeas and crytals designed to look like icicles all under heated white tents. He added, "Danielle looked like a princess. Kevin couldn't stop smiling."
The pair exchanged traditional wedding vows as well as bands they designed for one another from Jacob & Co. At the reception, guests dined on Caribbean, Asian and Italian foods. "Kevin has said many times he feels like he met his princess," Russo said. "To see them together you can feel the warmth and the love all around them. They are just perfect for each other."
Jonas, 22, and Deleasa, a 23-year-old former hairdresser from New Jersey, got engaged in July. They met in 2007 while their families were vacationing in the Bahamas. At the time the band was still up-and-coming and Deleasa has admitted that she didn't even know who the Jonas Brothers were. Kevin pursued Deleasa after he spotted her on the beach. "It still feels like a dream," she told People about the engagement.
