Man arrested real 50 bill

Man arrested real 50 bill, Man arrested for paying with real $50, Police in Tennessee arrested a man and took him to jail for using a $50 bill they thought was fake. Officers say a store clerk called them after a marker used to detect this kind of money didn't show the bill was realPolice had the bill analyzed at banks and found out it was real – just so old, the marker didn't react to itWhat officers thought was a counterfeit $50 bill turned out to be an old, legitimate bill, but the truth wasn’t discovered until a man was mistakenly charged and jailed Friday.

A clerk at Quik Mart, South Cannon Boulevard, notified police after the marker used to detect counterfeit bills didn’t check as real.
“The front side of the bill was off center and it didn’t feel like a normal bill, it did look to be counterfeit,” officer Brock Horner said in his report.
Tennessee police are apologising after arresting a man for using a US$50 bill they thought was fake but that turned out to be real.
Police in Shelbyville thought the bill was counterfeit after a convenience store clerk called them. The clerk said a marker used to detect false money didn't show the bill was real.
The Shelbyville Times-Gazette reported Officer Brock Horner arrested Lorenzo Gaspar on Friday.
But a police evidence technician told the arresting officer that some old bills don't react to the markers. So police gave the money to two banks to check, and they said it was real but just very old.
Just because a $50 bill doesn't check out as real when colored with a marker commonly used to detect counterfeit money doesn't mean it isn't the real deal.

That was the lesson learned by an arresting officer in Shelbyville, Tenn., who jailed a suspect on Friday only to be told by a sergeant in the department who works as an evidence technician that some old bills don't react the same way as new ones, the Shelbyville Times-Gazette reports.

When the officer took the $50 bill to two banks, both determined it was legitimate. At that point, the officer apologized to suspect Lorenzo Gaspar and arranged for a judicial commissioner to release him.
Shelbyville Police jailed a man whose currency wasn’t current.
Later, the arresting officer told Lorenzo Gaspar he was sorry he’d arrested him after discovering the $50 bill was real.
The Shelbyville Times-Gazette reported that Officer Brock Horner arrested Gaspar on Friday after a clerk at a Quik Mart told police a marker used to detect counterfeit bills wouldn’t mark the one Gaspar gave him and that the bill didn't "feel real."
Turned out the money wasn’t at fault; the process was.
Evidence technician Sgt. Bill Logue told Horner to have the bill examined at banks. One found the bill “real, but very old.” Another used a black light and magnifying glass to determine the bill was legitimate.
The arrest wasn’t. Horner apologized to Gaspar after a judicial commissioner released him from jail and suggested he change the bill at a bank for a newer one.
