Woman million lottery twice

Woman million lottery twice

A Woman million lottery twice, Virginia woman won two big lotto checks  after two of her lottery tickets matched five of the six Powerball numbers that week  After no one won the jackpot   it was announced that 14 people across the US matched five of the Powerball numbersWinning the lottery once in a lifetime is pretty lucky. Winning the lottery twice in the same day? Virginia Pike is one of the few people that can describe that feeling.

The Berryville, Va., resident had two tickets that matched five of the six Powerball numbers in an April 7 drawing so that each ticket was worth $1 million.

"I'm in shock!" Fike said in a news release from the Virginia lottery.

In early April, Fike stopped at an Olde Stone Truck Stop in Virginia with her numbers ready and purchased two tickets.

"I picked numbers based on my parents' anniversary and their ages at that time, divided by the year they were married," Fike said in the release. "I just love the jackpot games and I play when I can afford it."

The jackpot that week was at $80 million. In order to win the jackpot, the ticket holder has to match the five numbers and the sixth Powerball number.

After the drawing, it was announced that no one had won the jackpot, but 14 people nationwide had matched five of the numbers and were entitled to $1 million prizes each. Two of the winning tickets were in Virginia.

Pike was in the hospital keeping her mother company.

"I saw a scroll on TV about there being two $1 million winners. I looked at my mom and said 'Wouldn't it be funny if it was us?'" she said.

When she stopped by a convenience store, Pike had the clerk check her tickets and she discovered that she had won both of Virginia's $1 million prizes.

Per Virginia state lottery rules, winners split the jackpot, regardless of how many there are, but non-jackpot prizes from matching part of the winning sequence are not split and can be won multiple times.

"It's not that uncommon for people to buy tickets in games with the same number, but this is the biggest prize we've ever had in Virginia of two tickets in the same drawing," Virginia Lottery spokesman John Hagerty told ABCNews.com.

Pike was presented with a check for $2 million on Friday at the truck stop where she purchased the ticket. Winners in Virginia are required to come forward and be identified. She will receive $1.4 million after taxes. The store also received a $20,000 bonus for selling the two winning tickets.

Pike did not respond to a request for comment from ABCNews.com.

For now, Virginia's newest millionaire is basking in her shocking win.

"I must be dreaming," Pike said. "I look forward to helping to take care of my parents and paying some bills."

You play the lottery religiously every week, hoping to one day hit the big one. You want to win it, just once, so that you could live the life you always dreamed of living. Then you hear news about someone that won the lottery twice. That just doesn't seem right; it doesn't seem fair - Some people win the lottery twice, yet you can't even win it once. But it happens.

Meet Josephine Berndl. She's in the photo above accepting a big lotto check. She's the one in the middle. Her husband is on the right. Josephine's a woman that won the lottery twice!

Josephine's first win was in September of 2010. She won $2 million on an instant scratch game from New York Lottery. When she got her first win, Josephine said that she would use the money to buy a log-cabin in the woods where all of her children and grandchildren can visit to play and enjoy the outdoors.

Fast forward just over a year later, October 2011. Josephine Berndl was not satisfied with just a $2 million win. She kept buying more lottery tickets. She bought another instant scratch ticket from the very same store that sold her the $2 million winner just over a year ago. And, what do you know, she scored another big winner - This time she won $150,000.

That brings Josephine Berndl's overall take to $2,150,000.

With the second win, Josephine said that she would be using the money to fix up a house that she and her husband had recently bought. Think that house might be a log cabin in the woods? Maybe!

I know, some of you don't think it's fair that some people win the lottery twice, yet you can't win it once. I, though, enjoy these stories. In fact, I've covered multiple lottery winners on this blog, like Robert Hong, Mel Irish, Erik Martineau, Brenda Bailey, and more. And, trust me, there will be more to come, whether you like it or not!
CNN producer Jennifer Hauser is one lucky summumab*tch! This lovely woman just won yet another lottery only months apart!

Peep details

After winning $100,000 in November, a CNN producer has won big again in the Georgia Lottery.

This time Jennifer Hauser of Atlanta scratched her way to a $1 million win on the instant game 50X The Money.

Hauser, 29, claimed her $1 million prize Monday.

“I was a little numb,” Hauser said of her recent win. “I didn’t know what to think.”

She bought the ticket at the Roswell Food Mart, 5645 Roswell Road N.E., in Atlanta.

When she won the $100,000 playing the instant game Georgia Lottery Black in November, Hauser bought a new car and paid bills.

She said she may use some of her current prize to buy a new car for her mother.

On Feb. 8, Erik Holmes, 44, claimed a $500,000 lottery prize, less than a year after he won $104,000.

Holmes claimed his $500,000 prize on a new scratch-off game called $7 Million Jackpot.

The Home Depot manager was leaving work when he bought the ticket at Ponce Food Mart, 689 Boulevard N.E., Atlanta.

He said he used his previous prize from March 2011 to help family and friends.

Meanwhile, officials report that the Georgia Lottery has experienced its best sales week ever.

Sales for the week ending Feb. 11 soared to more than $101.2 million, more than $5 million ahead of the previous record set in 2007, according to a news statement.

“Sales were strong across the board with Powerball and KENO! having their highest sales week in Georgia Lottery history. Cash 3, Cash 4 and instant games enjoyed their highest sales week of the fiscal year,” according to the release. ”Instant games led the pack with nearly $68 million in sales. Last week’s $336 million Powerball jackpot pulled in over $9 million,” according to the Lottery Corp.
